Adding a 4% Card Fee

Hi, my company is looking to implement a 4% service fee to all card transactions made. I am not sure of any way to implement something like this in Microsoft POS with out changing the fee on all transactions, and making adjustments on every cash/check transaction that we make (which feels like much more work than it needs to be!) So I am just wondering if there is a way to implement something that will automatically adjust transactions made by credit/debit cards by 4% with out having to change the prices on anything. Thanks!

(I am using Microsoft POS Dynamics 2009)

RE: Adding a 4% Card Fee

    Hey Ed,

We are planning to implement card transaction fee to customer who uses credit/debit. As you mentioned that you have add-on and I am interested in that. Could you please provide me your contact info?

    Thanks,

    Pappu

I have an addon that does this.  It make use of an item tax.  Then on check out it prompts the cashier for cash or credit.

You must make sure you comply with your state regulations and your merchant service agreement. Not all merchant accounts allow this, and some that do require extra information to be sent to the processor.

My addon does not send extra information or interact with merchant processing in any way.

I don't know where you are located, but that practice is not always legal, so you might want to check.  I'm in Oklahoma and last I checked, it's illegal in my state for such a fee. The suggested work-around is to increase prices 4% and then offer a discount to cash or check customers.

However, since you do not want to increase regular prices, the best idea I have is to use the price levels function. On all your items, you will need to select one of the price levels (A, B, or C) that you are not using yet and make those prices 4% higher than your regular price (the inventory wizard can do this in a snap). You will also need to set up a discount code that says "credit card fee."

When ringing up the sales, go into the discount function, select "set price level for transaction" and choose the price level that you have changed. When prompted, choose the discount reason code you created.
