Updating opportunities when they have been closed as Lost/Won

Hi,

We mark an opportunity as closed Lost / Closed Won when applicable but sometimes revenue amounts may change, emails sent need to be added to the opportunity, an activity to review the opportunity 6-12 months after it was closed etc but the opportunity changes to read only when marking as closed. I have tried exporting, updating the fields needed and then importing again but i either get errors or it creates a duplicate entry. Does anyone know if there is a setting you can change so opportunities do not become read only after they are closed.

we need to be able to mark them as closed for management reporting on a monthly basis so leaving them open but with the status changed to won / lost isn't really an option without having to change all our dashboard reporting.

Any advice or assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Lou

    Hi,

Once an Opportunity is closed (Won/Lost), it becomes read-only.

There is no way to make enable again unless you re-activate it.

    I would following solutions:

    • Reopen the opportunity to make your changes and then mark it closed (as Won/Lost). Problem to this approach is, any processes related to Opportunity Status will re-run.

    • Second approach is to create a view with Inactive Opportunities, add required columns and export as excel sheet. Update the data in Excel and re-import, see this:

As you mentioned you are having issues with data import, please make sure when you export the file from CRM, do not update or remove hidden columns (you would notice columns are hidden before Column D).

If you make sure your do not remove these columns, you should have updates instead of new records.

Also, Closed Opps can be updated using Web API (if needed).
