EFT file layout for Swiss bank account

Has anyone created an EFT file layout for a Swiss bank?  We've got a client with a Swiss bank account that needs an EFT file layout created for their AP payments.

The file specs require a dta file and it appears that every detail record is to have a header record.  As best I can tell, the standard GP EFT layouts don't meet these specs.  I've never created an EFT layout from scratch.  Not sure where/how to start.

    Hi Lisa,

Its quite a while since I've done one for DTA but I do seem to remember something about 826 and 836. I think we were able to accommodate both types of payment in the same file. Looking at the specs I have, I think its on position 49 in the file? [position 49 on a payment line].

You should be able to create a single EFT file with multiple payments. The file structure should be one payment per line...plus a footer line at the end summarising the payment lines - totals etc. There is no file header.

Let me know if you have difficulty - I might be able to find a sample file that you can use to compare. PM me your email address.

    Ian.

RE: EFT file layout for Swiss bank account

Ian, I'm attempting to format DTA for a Swiss bank account.  They have only been able to provide me with specs (same document that Liane mentioned).  They don't have a sample file to provide so I'm finding it really difficult to interpret the specifications for payment types 826 and 836.  It appears that a separate file is needed for each payment as the amount is only in the header section.  Did you find that to be the case?  If so, do they need to run one payment per batch?

    Thanks,

    Lisa

    Hi Liane,

Yes - they are nearly all DTA files in Switzerland.

You should be able to create a file to suit in GP.

Other things you will need to watch out for in DTA's is bank giro payments etc. These need the bank giro number recorded on the payment so that it is included in the EFT export. I find using the Comment field at the bottom of the payment entry window works.

Hi Ian - I requested the bank's specs from the Client and they sent me a 65 page document titled "Swiss Interbank Clearing - DTA - Standards and Formats".  They also sent me a sample DTA file.  It looks like some sort of a fixed length flat file but not like the standard GP ones.  I'll double check the currency format requirement.

    Hi Liane,

You should be able to create the file. Did you get a file spec from UBS? Most European files can be created using the GP EFT tool.

Best to start creating a file from scratch rather than modifying a canned one.

Did UBS define the currency format they need? Some banks insist on 000.000,00 - which means you would need to change the format in GP currency set up in order for the data to come out correctly in the export file.

This is all fine until you need to do another export for something else - that requires a different currency format. If this happens you are looking at developing a little application to run against the exported file before you transmit it.

    Best regards,

    Ian.

    Hi Ian,

The account is with UBS.  The currency for the Swiss Franc is setup as 0,000,000.00.

    Thanks,

    Liane

    Hi Liane,

We created an EFT file layout for a Swiss bank (for a customer based in Switzerland).

    What bank are they using?

What is their currency format in GP for Swiss Francs? (0,000,000.00 or 0.000.000,00?)

    Ian.
