Counting and Adjusting Reserved Inventory

Hi All,

I have an inventory counting scenario I am hopeful you can help with: Reserved inventory often moves to different locations in our finished goods warehouse. Because of this we expect to have situations in the counting journal when the on hand amount is in a different location than the counted amount. As currently configured the journal cannot be validated because the reservation does not allow the inventory to move via the counting journal. What is the best practice to resolve this situation?

Reflect the movement of the goods in AX or dont reserve at the time you are which is holding it, which you then move and dont tell AX you have moved it!

    Hi brianh

Unless you can use the 'Reservation hierarchy' functionality in R3, its a problem.

You can't move reserved inventory (without first removing the reservation). And you can't adjust it either.

I would go with making sure AX is updated when inventory is moved, even if it is reserved (yes, I know I just said you can't; it is possible to customise the transfer journal, for example, to make it easier for the users).

With an accurate inventory, if you are missing some items during a count, you have to address the reservation before you can post the adjustment. But you'd have to do that anyway, since you've just discovered the reserved items aren't there!
