Chart Functionality

Hello all,

I'm relatively new to working with the Dynamics CRM Online and was hoping I could get my questions answered or at least mostly answered.

I'm working on the marketing side of the CRM and am trying to put together a couple of charts based on the marketing stage of a lead (New, MQL[contacted], SQL[ready to convert]). Is it possible to put a chart together that shows me the activities of a lead by their marketing stage? To explain, I want the chart to show how many emails, nurture emails, and how many phone calls were sent/ made to all New, MQL, SQL leads.

I also want to put together another chart that shows leads that lead to revenue. I'm assuming I would do that based off leads/ contacts that turn into opportunities, but is there a way I can set up a query to base my chart off of?

Any help on both or just one of these issues would be greatly appreciated as I've tried to throw these together and I have no clue where else to start or what else to look into. Thanks.

Also, is there a way to increase the number of charts that are allowed on a dashboard? I am trying to put somehwere around 7-8 charts on a dashboard and I'm getting an error message saying that I am only allowed 6, probably something to look at within the Customization tab??

    Hi there!

Yes you can create queries as the basis of your charts.

For the first chart you would do a view (either Advanced Find or System View) of the Activities and add the Marketing Stage as one of the columns to the View.  To do this, you would click the Edit columns on the ribbon, click Add Columns on the right and drop down the Record Type list at the top to select Regarding Lead.  In this way you can filter out all the Closed activities (past communications versus future schedule activities), as well.  Once you build the view (query), you should be able to build a chart and group by activity type and count the

In the second case, you could do a view (either Advanced Find or System View) based on Opportunities.  You can tilter out all Opportunities that are Close/Won where the Originating Lead field contains data.  You can also add the Lead Source to your query by editing the columns, clicking Add Columns and selecting Originating Lead from the top and then selecting Lead Source.

Let me know if this does not point you in the right direction.

I do not think there is a way to get around this limit.

It sounds like those may be the solutions I've been looking for. Reading it now it makes me wonder how I couldn't come up with that myself haha. Thanks, I'll let you know if this works.

Part of looking for an answer is believing it exists!  :-)

    Hi Egawel,
Gretchen is correct, I would just add that there are some great options out there in terms of representing your data with a stacked column. I have had great success for many of my clients showing various closed activity types over a certain period of time by multiple categories. In this case, type and owner. This makes it (I won't say easy, but) easier to not only see what's going on in your system, but to share that information with others as well. It kind of gives you a pulse on the goings on of your CRM, and indeed your organization. Let us know if we can be of further assistance. Good luck!

    Hello,

There is a workaround for the Dashboard limitation that works pretty well and is easy to implement. It's what I call a "Dashboard within a Dashboard".

One of the really great design ideas the CRM team came up with is the concept of URL addressable forms. Each form in Microsoft Dynamics CRM is a Web page that is identified by a unique URL address. When you type in that URL, the page will open with the specific form (including Dashboards). We can use this to  "embed" a dashboard within a dashboard.

As an example, create your first system dashboard with 4 or 5 charts. Next, create your second dashboard with up to the 6 chart limit. Now, go back to your first chart and add an iFrame as a 5th chart and set the URL to the 2nd Dashboard you already created.

If you want to get the URL of the Dashboard you want to embed. Do the following:

    1. On the site map, click Workplace, then click Dashboards.

    2. Click the arrow to the right of Dashboards, and then right-click the dashboard you want to access the context menu (Sales Performance).

    3. Click Copy a Link (or Email a Link).

    4. You can now grab the URL that is specific to that dashboard. Use this URL to add to another dashboard.

Grabbing the URL to the chart.

Ta-da! The dashboard with more than 6 charts!

    Hope this helps!

Perfect. Thank you to all who helped with this. Very good information and mentoring of a relatively new CRM user. Thanks again!
