When pressing the "Simulate Posting" button the system does not provide a G/L posting preview. This feature was there and very useful in Business Central. However, in F&O this seems not to work.

What exactly is the use of the "Simulate Posting" button if it doesn't generate a G/L posting preview? In my opinion, it just seems to do exactly the same as with the "Validate" button.

The extract from Microsoft Learn isn't very clear...

Hi,

Stimulate posting does not generate any accounting preview, it simply verifies all the rules without posting. example

Validate Only checks validity of the journal or document.

There is just a slight difference between validate and stimulate posting.

Is Microsoft intending to add the "Posting Preview" function in F&O as well?

It is way more useful that just the validity checks.

Hi,

Both Validate and Simulate Posting helps to ensure accuracy, but they are slightly different.

Validate function checks journal entries for required fields and basic conditions needed to post. E.g. check for balancing of vouchers, mandatory fields (e.g. dimensions) are populated, other conditions that could block posting (e.g. account is setup as "Do not allow manual entry" or "Suspended". The scope is to detect simple and structural errors, without running the full posting logic.

Simulate functions will execute the entire posting logic as if the journal were being posted, without writing transactions to the ledger. It will check all logic that would occur during actual posting. The scope not only checking structural errors but also issues that would appear during the posting routine.

Example: Posting profile is not setup.

Validate has no issue:
