Using Upsert code / other ways to update record

Hello Community. I need some help identifying the best way to update records. I appreciate any help getting to a solution.

Situation:

I have 30k + accounts in my production environment. We want to load previous year sales data into a field within each account record. There is a unique identifier in the account number. Obviously you cannot just import and run a lookup field to them as the import wizard does not allow this... To my knowledge? please correct if I am wrong.

My thinking was to use the Upsert code function. Has anyone used these successfully? Are there any documentation that details this process start to finish?

Another option would be to export to excel online and run some sort of Vlookup to the correct account. Has anyone mass updated 30k + records like this via excel online? I think it would not handle that amount of data very well?

Thanks everyone and I appreciate your help!

    Hi CRMGuy,

I dont think upsert will work for you as you need to have the alternative key already set up and populated with your identifier.

You could create a custom entity entity and import your records into this. Create a workflow thats fire on creation of its records to find and update the account record.

Its not clear to me what data you are using to identify the account you are updating as this logic needs to be used in the workflow. Afterwards you can delete the custom entity.

Not sure if this helps but as you had no other replies :-)

    Hi,

Have you tried Kingsways SSIS connector for CRM as this would be a perfect solution for this type of problem.

If you have knowledge of SSIS its a no code option that will let you update/upsert records.

You can add account number as an alternate key and then use the upsert function. You will have to create a custom application which would read your data and update the same in CRM.
