Reusable containter / item in production

Dear community,

We have the following case:

We use the production in Business Central. In a first step, a semi-finished item A is produced, which is packed into a container as part of this production.
At a later stage, the finished item B is produced from this semi-finished product A. For this purpose, A is removed from the container.
This container can be reused for the production of further quantities of A.

Is there a way to realize these reusable containers in BC?

The aim would be to know any time how many containers are still empty / in stock and how many are already occupied, as this is important for production planning. For example, 5 containers must be empty so that we can produce A.
The only way I have discovered so far is to store the container as part of A's bill of materials and post it as consumption. However, this increases the cost price of A by the value of the container.
In the production of B, the containers would then have to be posted again as negative consumption.
Is there another way to implement this in the BC standard?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

The only I can think of is that the BOM for item B will contain a line for the container that is used for A as a -ve quantity.

    For example,
The BOM for item A would have the container as a component of say quantity 1, so that when item A is produced it consumed one of the containers.

then when you produce item B and post consumption it will then add 1 of the container back into stock as the bom has this as a -ve qty.  that would then make this available again for another production of say item A.

    production order components

Once item produced and stock consumed.

You can see that the -ve consumption adds the item back into stock.

    Hope that helps,
    Shauna
