Multiple Prod. order lines in Business Central "design / logic" question

Hello community, trying to strenghten my knowledge about production in BC. While my current knowledge around it based on my let's call it "basic support" of what's already was imlemented i feel i am missing one simple point and can not find straightforward answer or documentation around it.

The point i dont fully get, and it probably comes from my legacy "experience" is that prod. order though supports multiple lines but has some limitations in multiple lines scenarios? Though in by-products or co-products scenarios it seems to be a "normal" thing. Is that "limitation" sits in cost calculation or somewhere else?

I would appreciate any exploanation or maybe there are piece of documentation explaining it.

Thanks!

You will only get multi line orders when using either product families, i.e two or more things output from the same process, or when you have a multi level production order which is what you seem to be describing.

In the latter case, if the child part has a 'manufacturing policy' of 'make to order' and a 'reordering policy' or 'Order', the child item will automatically appear as a second line on a production order for the parent item.

    Hi Igor,

Thank you for submitting your question.  This is Bryan and I will "try" answering your question.

Although I am not sure I really understand the basis of your question or what it is you are getting at.  The question seem a bit broad and general and open so I'm going to best answer as I can.

If the basis of your question is about Costing, I'm not sure what Limitation you are referring to.  Can you give an example of what it is exactly you are getting at?  Again, having a very difficult time trying to answer the question on how it was phrased:)

Maybe this helps.  With Production and multiple lines, or even just one line, we don't fully know the end cost of the production order until the Production Order is 1. set to a Finished Status AND  2. Adjust Cost is run (which if you have Auto Cost Adjustment = ALWAYS, then this will be auto run after Finishing.   But the Adjust Cost then is the process that will calculate the costs of capacity and material consumption, and roll them up to Output, clear WIP and calculate the Cost Amount Actual for the Output, whether it is just simply 1 line prod. order, or multi line.

I'm not sure if that helps or not.  If not, then please provide more details.  Thank you
    Bryan
