Lot ID's in inventory journals

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

We would like to import in an inventory journal using AX data import / export functionality.  We were successful in doing so but one field is giving us trouble, Lot ID.

Question:

1)  What is the significance of this field?

2)  Is this a number sequence or can we just plug in any lot ID higher then the last and not have to worry about the consequences?

The system generates the Lot ID when you enter in a new line in a journal manually but if we import in with a blank value, we get errors that it needs to be specified.

As usual thanks in advance and appreciate the help.

Regards.

The Lot ID is the inventory transaction number and is mandatory. It is similar to the voucher number in the GL. If you use any old number then you run the risk of having a conflict later when the number sequence catches up. You really should use the number sequence functionality to allocate the next number and update the sequence to reflect that.
