what is the Microsoft AX username Character limitation?
If the default character is e.g. eight can dev team alter this limitation?

Hi Ahmad,
The UserId EDT in 2012 has a lenght of 8 in D365FO it has a lenght of 20.
In D365FO it is not possible to change the EDT at this moment cause it exists in the system documentation.
A possibility would be to change the underlying EDT at all locations via customization but this will not work when the hard lock comes in next fall. So in the end it will not be possible.

I do agree with Sukrut that is is not a best practice to make changes around the userId EDT.
you can assign user ID manual to overcome this issue.
but not recommended to change EDT in your case
