Assemble-to-Order item: Consumer existing stock before creating assembly order?

Hi Everyone,

We have some items that are assembly items and set to assemble-to-order, this works well and when a sales order is created it triggers an assembly order automatically. However, on occasion we may have some stock of the assembled good available to sell, and in BC it is showing on the shelf as available inventory. This can happen when an order is cancelled prior to shipping, or a stock return from another customer etc. However we have no way of consuming this stock as an assembly order is always created for the item.

Is there a way so that items are flagged as assemble-to-Order, but if stock exists of the assembled good it allocates this to the sales order before creating an assembly order?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Jerome

On the Sales Order line, I think You can add column "Applies-to Item Entry", and if You provide a value here for the existing stock, it will not trigger the Assembly order creation and use the stock item.

agree with previous response, By using this function, user is able specify what open inventory to sell and BC won't create a new assembly order. below screen is what you see after clicking the appl to item entry on sales line. One thing to note is the item ledger entry is location specific. So if you sell item from location A where no inventory exist, you won't be able to choose. You need to either change to another location or transfer to location A.

As far as I know there is no way to stop the automatic creation of the assembly order if your item has the assembly policy as assembly to order. In the Sales Order lines to select a value in the Appl.-to Item Entry field you need to have a value in the Quantity field first. But as soon as you add a value in the Quantity field, that's when the system automatically creates the assembly order. So that's not really going to work.

This is how you can make it work:

    1. Create the sales order and add your item and quantity (i.e. 1)
    2. In the sales order lines there is a Qty. to Assemble to Order field. The system automatically creates the assembly order and populates this field with a 1
    3. But if you remove the 1 in the Qty. to Assemble to Order field, the system will delete the automatically created assembly order.
