Assignee has insufficient privileges

Posted on by

I get this notice - Assignee has insufficient privileges - when trying to assign an account to a user. This particular user is a sys admin and has other security roles that many of our users have with no problem. He's also a sys admin for our 365 account, which is how our users are managed in CRM.

Has anyone had a similar problem? I'm about to submit a ticket to MSFT, but that's always my last ditch effort.

I learned that in CRM, the Client Access License (CAL) Information was set to Administrator, and not Read-Write. For anyone to have the ability to create or own records in CRM, they have to be read-write.

I also am receiving this error.  I am new to Dynamics 365 for sales so it may be user error, not sure.  I loaded a list of leads in which I had the (Sales User) as owner.  The load worked but didnt assign the ownership.  I realize that loads take the ownership of the person loading.  I thought I would be able to reassign.

Now that the leads are loaded when I try and assign a bulk listing by checking the boxes next to the leads I get this error.   If I go in one by one, sometimes i can reassign.

    Any insights?

Thanks! We had the same problem. Very weird glitch.

    RE: Assignee has insufficient privileges

    It's been resolved.

Microsoft support identified the problem being that in CRM, his Client Access License (CAL) Information was set to Administrator, and not Read-Write.

For anyone to have the ability to create or own records in CRM, they have to be read-write. Even if they are a global administrator.

When we tried to save it, it said he didn't have a CRM license, which was odd, since he did have an active account.

Since we're a partner of Microsoft, we have a checkbox on each user at the 365 side to identify it they're using one of our CRM licenses. It was checked as it's supposed to.

So we unchecked it, let it sit for a while, and checked it again. This prompted the systems to sync up again, as I can best understand it as a non-technical person.

When I tried today, his CAL info was set to Read-Write, and I was able to save records to his name.

    Thanks for all the help!

    RE: Assignee has insufficient privileges

    Hi Houston,

To assign the Account record (CRM Record) to a user, that respective user should have the security role in CRM, not only the sys admin for 365 Account.

    They are two different things.

So, have your user in CRM had the Security Role assigned in CRM term?

You see, the CRM also has the Role, not only in the 365 account.

Can you help to verify this role has been assigned to that user or not (not necessary System Admin role in CRM, as long as this role has privilege to read Account).

    Thanks.

I would go to Office 365 and submit a Service request.

I hope you can get this resolved, please let us know what the out come is.

Anyways the User should only be assign as an System Admin. and for the Teams there should be none.

    Good luck.

I sort of follow you. He is an admin on 365. I can go to my teams in CRM and locate my default team that has every user that ever was as a member. It doesn't have a team role assigned to it, and I don't think it's supposed to. I'm not sure what else to do.

Not sure if this will help.

Go to Office 365 and click on the User make sure the user has Service Admin Assign to them.

Next go back to CRM and check the Team Roles especially the Team Name (Default team for the parent business unit. The name and membership for default team are inherited from their parent business unit.) look to see what Teams are assign this role.

Thanks, good theory. But when the problem started sys admin was the only role he had. I added a few more and nothing changed.

    Question:

Not sure if this will help or not

How many roles do this user have.

If he is a sys admin then I would make the User a sys admin and get rid of the other roles.

You don't need to assign any more roles to that User. CRM might be getting confused in what role to use.
