Hello AX experts,
I am using a Movement Journal to upload our initial inventory in AX. When I validate the Journal I get an error stating I need to have a batch number with every item to be uploaded as the batch number it is part of the inventory dimension. I have not found an entity in DIXF that allow me to upload the inventbatch table. I was not successful using the Excel add-in Dynamics AX to add one generic batch number for every item - most probably due to lack of knowledge since I am new to AX. How can I upload the initial inventory without a batch number - not causing any problems down the road or How can I upload/create a batch number for all the opening items so that the inventory upload works?
Thanks,
Hernan.
Hello Hernan,
While the Fields selection menu is open, publish button shall be grayed out, there could be other reasons as well.
You can search on bing for Excel Add In Publish Button Greyed out and you would come across many post related to same.
Thank You for verifying the thread.
Regards,
Ashish
Ashish,
The solution you provided via the Excel Add-in worked. Thanks so much for your help. for some reason when I initially use Excel the Publish options were grayed out,
Thanks!,

Hello Hernan,
I checked into my 2012 R3 Contoso box and here is process i would suggest to follow;
1. User Excel Add to import Batch Master, Go to Excel > Dynamics AX > Add Data > Add Table
2. Select Invent Batch Table from the list and click ok
3. From the fields list select the requisite field and add column e.g. below i added Manufacturing Date
Close the fields selection
4. Update the data in excel
5. Click on Action Pane > Publish > Publish All or Publish Selected (as per requirement)
Batch is created
Now you can use the use the same Batch ID in your Movement Journal.
Hope this answers your query. As for the DIXF concern, there is no out of box data entity available for Item Batch.
Let me know if you have any more query.
Regards,
Ashish
Ashish,
I looked at the link you provided and the only entity in DIXF with "Batch" name is Batch groups.
Thanks, Hernan
Forgot this screenshot
Hello Ashish,
I cannot see the item batches entity in the entity list, only find batchGroup, see screenshot.
Also when I go to the DIXF parameters I get the screenshot below so I do not see how I can update the entity list so that I can add the entity you indicate I need.
Thanks, Hernan
Hello Ashish,
I am using AX 2012 and I cannot see where the data management option is. Can you please indicate where I can find that option - Thanks

Hello Hernan,
You can you Entity Name = Item Batches to upload Batch number master. In case you do not find the said entity in list, go to Data Management > FRamework Parameters > Entity Settings > Refresh Entity List.
You cannot post the journal until all the Inventory Dimension updated.
After you import the Batch Master, you can update the Batch number in Movement Journal template and upload the journal. You should be able to post the Journal now.
Regards,
Ashish
