Are there any costs for making API calls Dynamics 365 Sales

Posted on by 30

Hi all

Are there any costs associated with making API calls with Dynamics 365 Sales?

I have successfully connected my Azure DB in one tenant to my Dynamics 365 Sales Trial in another tenant using Azure Data Factory. This was fairly easy to setup and works well but there will be ongoing costs for transferring our large quantities of data.

I believe the same result can be achieved (eg creating Accounts in Dynamics from our SQL database) using the API.  I have connected to the Dynamics 365 Sales API using Postman, but are there any costs involved using this method? I need to identify and scope out all costs before I can make a decision on which route to take.

Many thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Would GET all Accounts be one request or would it count each Account record as one request?

    One Record one Request

I have used Azure DF to import some of our records using my trial credits and can see these charges in Azure Cost Management, but I don't see any costs for the API calls I have been making.

You can only see the API Usage but not cost on Power platform admin center - admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com/

I don't think API call cost  you anything. The only thing is when number of calls exceeded API limit in a given duration, you will get error mentioned on link which I shared.

Hi Bipin, thanks for the article that is very useful!

We have 30k+ accounts in our database that we would want to import into Dynamics 365 Sales for each of our customers. I see the article mentions 6000 requests. Would GET all Accounts be one request or would it count each Account record as one request?

I have used Azure DF to import some of our records using my trial credits and can see these charges in Azure Cost Management, but I don't see any costs for the API calls I have been making. You mention these use the same underlying API so should I see the costs here?

    kind regards

    Hello,

When you use Azure data factory to load data into Dynamics crm it will use API only. So whichever method you use system will use underlying API and those api will be counted against API limit.

I would highly encourange you to lookat below docs page for service protection limit and cost associated to it if you'd like to increase the limit.

    docs.microsoft.com/.../api-limits
