Cannot restore AxDB Database - DB in use

Hi,

This is more technical question, but I'm trying to restore AxDB database from my test VM to my own devbox. I've stopped Dynamics 365 Service, there are two as I know of : Batch Management Service and DIXF Service. But every time I tried to restore from the BAK file, always failed, and it is said "Database is in use"

In the Restore property I checked "Overwrite the existing database" option. Is there any setting I should checked as well ?

Or is there any more procedure that I should follow?

Thanks in advance.

I have the same question (0)

You also need to stop World Wide Web Publishing Service. That's where the AOS runs.

And I always stop also Management Reporter 2012 Processing Service.

    Hi Nikolaos,

I did, and I didn't use Management Reporter. But the problem still persist.

    Thanks

    Hi,

The best way to restore DB is to restore it first with a different name, maybe AXDB_UAT. Then stop below services and stop IIS in command prompt using iisreset/stop command.

    1. World wide web

    2. Management reporter

    3. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Unified Operations: Batch Management Service

    4. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Unified Operations: Data Import Export Framework Service

Then delete existing AXDB and rename imported DB to AXDB.

Refer below link for more details,

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/database/dbmovement-scenario-exportuat#import-the-database

In case you still facing issue with renaming, pl try to bring DB offline once and close all connection and then bring it online back. This trick works most of the time

Also make sure that you don't have any open queries into the database in SSMS, and that Visual Studio is not running.

Many thanks for all the advices. Managed to restore, for I need to take it Offline. It is actually stated in Deepak's blog ->

    Thanks again.
