CRM App for Outlook: Can't connect to Dynamics 365 on prem

(1) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Hallo Folks,

after upgrading our CRM Server 2011 to Dynamics 365 (on premise) I'am not anymore able to connect the CRM Client for Outlook. The error message says: "Problem communicating with the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server". Access by Web Browser is working with the same URL.

This is a small Setup on one Server. There is no Internet facing Deployment or ADFS installed. We're using CRM only internaly. CRM Client for Outlook was working with CRM 2011.

Logfile says:

Error connecting to URL: myserver/.../Organization.svc Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: Data[0] = "The provided uri did not return any Service Endpoints!

If I try to open the URL https://MYSERVER/XRMServices/2011/Organization.svc in my Web Browser I receive an error: "Invalid User authentication"

Maybe I was a little to quick and I think I need IFD for the Outlook Client - is that right? No other way?

I'am far from beeing an CRM expert and I appreciate any help from you. Keep in mind that I do not have any detailed CRM knowlege. Thank you!

    Hi Juge,

There are a couple of things we need to check.

First is the URL's used on the CRM Server. When you open CRM and go to Settings, Customization, Developer Resources is the same address ass you use on the top left item? If the url there is different from the url you use to connect with Outlook, try using this url instead.

Second, have you been upgrading the Outlook Client to the new version as well? If so, there might be a couple of resets that need to be done to make it work.

Hi MArc, thank you for your fast reation.

There are multiple URLS shown in Developer Ressources. On the top left is the "Intance Web API" and the URL ist

If I post the URL in mey Web Browser, its starting to Download a txt-File.

The working URL in my Browser to access CRM is:

    HI Juge,

Just to be sure: you use this same url when you try to connect with Outlook, right?

On the client machine you're using Outook on, has there been a previous version of the Outlook Client for the old CRM version on this machine as well?

    Hi Marc,

its the same URL but without the ending "/api/data/v8.2/"

The Computer with the Outlook Client is freshly installed, there was never any other Version of CRM Client for Outlook 2016 installed.

    I've a detailed error log:

Hi Juge, ok, so technically all seems fine. The user that is logged on to Outlook: does he have sufficient rights in CRM? Try to make him System Administrator and see if the problem still presists.

On the Developer Resources page in CRM, does the Discovery Service URL has the same URL?

User is both Windows Domain and CRM Admin.

All shown URL in the Developer Ressources are starting with "https://MYSERVER/MYINSTANCE

I added the full log to my last post above. Thank you so far!

Hi, ok so everything seems fine but the CRM Server is not showing the discovery information. Can you reach this url manually?

    myserver/.../Discovery.svc

If not, try to start a repair on the CRM installation.

    Can't access:

    Ungültige Benutzerautorisierung.

Die der Plattform übergebene Benutzerauthentifizierung ist ungültig.

("invalid user autorisation - Method of user authentication invalid")

Do I need ADFS to publish the discovery inormation?!

Haha I do speak German, but not that good ;-). Weird... This has to work... Just try to repair the CRM installation. It might have something to do with SPN records. That will be repaired when you do a repair on the CRM installation.

I have multiple customers working with the Outlook Client without using ADFS / IFD. So this should just work without them.
