Manufactoring cost analysis: enbeded power BI scustomizing

Dear experts,

we have been running D365 F&O for around 2 years now and I am trying to integrate whatever Dashboard we have external Power BI now into the embeded system:

Build a nice Inventory tracking for the all units in 6 countries.
3 of the 6 counties I see that in the past 6 months the Ending balance and also inventory sold is not populating anymore. It is odd that when I look at the historical data all seemed to have worked for a while and the one stopped in march, the another one in August and now one in september..

Is there anyway to track back the data in the embeded Power BI Dashboards.

It sounds like data for some of your inventory tracking measures (like Ending Balance and Inventory Sold) has stopped updating in embedded Power BI dashboards for three specific countries. Let's go through some steps to identify and address the issue:

    1. Verify Data Refresh for Embedded Power BI in D365 F&O

    • Embedded Power BI dashboards in D365 F&O rely on Entity Store data, which must be refreshed regularly. Check if the Entity Store refresh is set up properly for the relevant tables.
    • Go to System administration > Setup > Entity store in D365 F&O and confirm that the Entity Store is refreshing without errors.
    • Confirm that the specific entities or tables that feed data into the inventory dashboard (e.g., Inventory transactions, Inventory balances) are up-to-date.

    2. Check the Power BI Report Data Source

    • If your embedded Power BI report uses a direct connection to the Entity Store, check the report's data source to ensure it’s still valid.
    • In Power BI Desktop (if you have access to the original report file), verify that the connection settings are correct and that the data source has not changed or been corrupted.

    3. Investigate Data Flow and ETL Jobs

    • For more complex reports, you may have intermediate data flow or ETL jobs in place that move data from Dynamics 365 tables to the Power BI model. Check if any of these ETL jobs (such as Data Management Framework exports or custom scripts) have been disrupted for these specific countries.
    • Confirm that any batch jobs related to these ETL processes are running successfully in D365 F&O. Go to System administration > Inquiries > Batch jobs and look for relevant batch jobs that handle data refreshes for inventory tracking.

    4. Examine Power BI Dashboard Filters and Country-Specific Parameters

    • Ensure that the Power BI dashboard itself does not have filters or parameters that may exclude these countries. For example, if there's a filter or slicer set to exclude certain dates or locations, this could explain why data stopped appearing.
    • Open the Power BI report and review filters and slicers for country, date, or other relevant dimensions that could be affecting the view.

    5. Check Security and Permissions for Embedded Power BI

    • Embedded Power BI reports in D365 F&O rely on security roles to determine what data is visible to users. Make sure that there haven’t been changes in security roles or data access permissions for the affected countries that could impact the visibility of inventory data.
    • Check if the security roles assigned to the users viewing the report include access to all required data entities.

    6. Investigate Data Consistency in the Source Tables

    • Since the issue is intermittent and appears to affect only certain countries, it’s possible that data entry, posting, or reconciliation errors are causing missing data for those months.
    • Review the inventory transactions and balance tables in D365 F&O for those specific countries and months (March, August, and September). Make sure transactions are posted correctly, and there are no errors in data entry that might affect the calculations.

    7. Run a Full Data Refresh in Power BI Service

    • If the report is published to Power BI Service, try initiating a manual refresh. Go to Power BI Service > Datasets > [Your Dataset] > Refresh Now and see if this resolves the issue.
    • This can help identify if the problem lies with scheduled refreshes that may have failed or if there's an issue with specific periods in the data model.

    8. Review Entity Store Aggregations for Data Consistency

    • D365 F&O allows you to set up aggregate measurements for embedded analytics. Make sure that the aggregate measurements feeding into your inventory dashboards are set up correctly and cover the needed periods.
    • Go to System administration > Setup > Entity store > Aggregate measurements and confirm that the aggregates are functioning as expected. If needed, try rebuilding them to ensure data consistency.

    9. Enable Diagnostic Logging in Power BI for Errors

    • If your Power BI dataset encounters errors during data load, you can enable logging to capture more details. In Power BI Desktop, go to File > Options and settings > Options > Diagnostics and enable tracing.
    • Look for any errors during the refresh process, especially any that might relate to data filtering, permissions, or data model compatibility.
In summary, start by verifying Entity Store refreshes and Power BI dataset connectivity, then check filters, permissions, and the consistency of source data for those specific months and countries. Running a full data refresh and investigating any recent configuration changes should help resolve or narrow down the cause of the missing data.
