Automation of imported records to update specific fields based on other attributes

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We are importing large number of records into Dynamics 365, and would like to figure out a way to update specific records upon import.

A more specific case being the following:

  • import 100+ records at once.
  • These records are all found in USA and have Phone Number and States assigned to them.
  • Need to update a required field "Timezone" based on the above criteria

is there a way to automate this? if not, what's the best way to achieve this?

thank you in advance,

Avo

no, I don't think there is any pre-existing solution could do this job, instead of creating your own web api, you could leverage crm custom actions, it will expose as a web api for external use

hmmm, i checked my options on workflow, it appears there is no way to map this. to be honest, it does seem like a C# code may be the solution to this. But if coding is involved to such a scale, i might as well create a web-based app to process this pre-import action, update the column and import it via api's.

it's an option for me. I just need a confirmation if there are any pre-existing solutions.

you could use workflow in automatically update the ‘Timezone’ field when records is import and created in CRM of you could also use plugin if the business logic is complex and you are comfortable with writing C# code
