GP2013 Standard Cost Changes

We recently upgraded from GP2010 to GP2013 (yes, I know they are at GP2015). I used to be able to change our standard costs in the Cards> Inventory > Item Maintenance. When I go to save the changes I get a message saying, "  You cannot change the standard cost of this item in this window. Use the Change Item Standard Cost window to change the standard cost of this item."

When I go to the Tools> Utilities>Inventory>Change Item Standard Cost window and make the change and click Process button, I get the error " You cannot post at the transaction level"

How can I get to change the standard cost in the Cards like I could in GP2010?

    Hi,

Yes, that will work since you are not actually using the standard cost for any processing in GP. Transaction you may enter through GP will not use standard cost as the COGS. Standard cost is ignored by a perpetual inventory item UNLESS you have pricing determined by standard cost.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

I found the solution. It may not work for everyone though. In GP 2013 you can change the  standard cost on the inventory Item card IF you are using a Perpetual Valuation method. We are using a periodic method. We do not track our inventory in GP but use GP for Invoicing. So I can change the FIFO Periodic to FIFO Perpetual and then update standard costs from Inventory Item Card..

    Hi,

This may be one of those 'enhancements' that messed up something else. With 2013 you are creating a transaction for the things you have in inventory. It will hit the inventory account on one side and the other side of the entry goes to the 'standard cost revaluation account'. It works much the same as the Adjust Cost utility for perpetual items (though not exactly). If you go to the item maintenance window and then click on the Accounts button, you will see the new account added to the bottom of the list.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Thanks, that worked but why cant I change the standard cost directly from the inventory item card? This was available in GP2010.  I have thousands of items I change every few months and have a process in integration manager that does not work in GP2013 because you cant change it in the card.

    Hi,

I believe you need to turn transaction posting 'on' in the Posting Setup window for the Inventory Transaction Origin. See below:

Be sure to go back in and uncheck the box after you change your cost because you may not want to leave it this way.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Make sure the user has access to post in the inventory module.
