GP 9 SP3 on Windows Server 2008

Does anyone know if SP3 will work for GP 9.0 installed on Windows Server 2008?  We are having issues getting it to install.  I was reading that GP 10 required SP4 to run on 2008.  Does GP 9.0 require SP4 as well?

Thanks,

Ron

Are you running the 32 or 64 bit version of 2008 - presumably 32bit? Not aware of any issues with V9 and winserv2008.

What kind of issues are you having? Any error messages etc.

    Regards,

    Ian.

I am actually running the 64bit version of 2008.  Could this be the issue?  The Data Execution Prevention in 2008 stops the SP3 from installing.  I execute the SP3 exe file and it collects its data and gets ready to install.  The installer progress bar never moves, and then I get an error saying that the install ended prematurely (not sure the exact error message).  I think see the the DEP has stopped the upgrade from executing.

Hi, for 64 bit operating systems only Dynamics GP 10 support pack 2 at a minimum is supported.

(Don't know for sure if you can run version 9 on 64 bit as I have never tried, but we have managed to get other non-supported products (eConnect 2 for example) to run successfully on 64 bit servers. Have you installed and operated V9 on windows server 2008 64 bit?...if you're installig SP3, maybe you have got GP to install fine.)

See the following techknowledge for more info:

If you find resolutions post them here?

GP 9.0 SP3 is currently running on Windows Server 2003 R2 32-bit in our production environment.  Our test environment is GP 9.0 running on Windows Server 2008 64-bit.  We did get GP 9.0 installed on the 64-bit 2k8 server.  However, upgrading to SP3 is where we have the problem.  Any ideas?

Have you installed service pack 2 prior to this?

or are you installing service pack 3 onto a clean V9.0.0 install from the GP CD?

Some things you could try: (This might not be a 64 bit issue.)

Install a fresh clean install from the CD. Install service pack 1, and if its successful then install service pack 2 and then 3. Do you get the same error with SP 1, or 2 etc.

Install a service pack for .net framework and run the SP 3 install again. I've seen this happen before and got an 'install failed' message and sevice packing .net sorted it. (It was with windows 2003 I think, but you never know, it might be the source of your issue).

I was installing from a fresh GP 9.0 install.  Could this be the issue?

It would be worth service packing your .net framework first, and then installing GP service pack 1, and then 2 and 3 if you can.

If SP1 doesn't install, I would re-install GP and then try SP1 again, so you can rule out any funny stuff from the SP3 attempted install.

When you installed GP, did you have to do anything to get it to install on the 64 bit server, or did it run smoothly? If you had to intervene, what did you have to do?

GP installed with no real intervention from me.  I did have to change the c:\program files (x86)\Dynamics GP path to c:\program files\dynamics gp.  Other than that it was smooth.

I'm in the same circumstances as the OP. I just patched the .NET framework and that did not resolve the issue for me. I'm going to try SP1 later. I'll let you know if it works.
