Updating existing contacts on import

Hello,

So last week we had an event with around 500 people. We now need to add all the people that attended the event into a campaign created in CRM to know who came and note that on their contact record. I have created the relationship between contacts and campaigns to allow adding contacts to campaigns instead of leads because our company does not use leads.

Some of the contacts on the excel sheet template to upload are existing contacts in CRM, others need to be created. This only has their basic information and the name of the campaign they need to be attached to. However, when importing, I can either ignore the existing contacts, or the system creates a new duplicate contact with the same name and the updated campaign.

How can I set it to update existing contacts that are matched by CRM upon import and create the contacts that are not found in CRM? I swear this used to be available, to match existing contacts and create those that aren't matched...

Mass updating or exporting the existing contacts would take way too long to take my list of attendees, search them in CRM one by one, then add them to a list of ones that need to be exported to be updated, then create the contacts that need to be created, which is not the point of trying to do what I am doing and save time and energy.

Thanks

    Hi,

AFAIK there has never been anyway out of the box to do this kind of upsert using imports.

You can use tools such as Kingswaysoft's SSIS toolkit or scribe to do it fairly easily.

If you want to do it in Excel you can download the contacts that are reported as duplicates and then update the data and re-upload.
