Installing Management Reporter problems (No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it)

Hi all,

I'm trying to install Management Reporter on a new server. This is a new installation I'm using the following YouTube as a guide on how to install Management Reporter:

Management Reporter Installation - YouTube

I am able to follow the steps, but when I reach the 7:07 mark and hit the Configure button, it fails. I enter the correct server, user and password credentials, but I always get the same error:

System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException: There was no endpoint listening at http://(servername):4712/CompanyService.svc that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details. ---> System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException:
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

I have opened port 4712, the user I'm using is a sysadmin, but it would not install. The 2 services (Management Reporter 2012 Application Service and Management Reporter 2012 Process Service) are not installed, but when I googled around, it appears these 2 services are created during the configuration stage (e.g. the stage that is currently failing).

I was wondering if you encountered this problem in the past and if yes, what would I need to look for? Thanks!

Sincerly,

Jason

    Hi Jason,

Are you seeing this error in the Deployment Log?  I usually start at the bottom of the log and then work my way back up, looking for errors.  If you start at the top, it's not uncommon to see this error, but then the deployment will continue for a bit and there will be another error further down in the log.

The SOAP error is usually something we'll see after MR is installed and the client tries to connect.  It's caused because the SPN is not set for the service account.  Resolution 9 in the article below has steps for setting the SPN.  Again, this usually happens after the install.
