Jobs planning line-reserves stock even if reservation functionality is not used

Good day

In my testing in BC, I have discovered that, so long as I have a qty on the Job Planning line for my item, it locks up that item qty.    That qty is then not available for use anwhere else in the system.   Both my item and my customer are set to Reserve = Optional.   My kob planning line is also set to Reserve = Optional.   I've tested on both serialised and non-serialised items.

It therefore seems like I don't have to use the additional Reservation functionality per Job Planning line to reserve the stock for that job.

Have I arrived at the correct conclusion please?

Your input would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

    Hello again

I have done another set of testing and I have seen that my original conclusion is not correct.

When the system displayed the message warning me that I would go into negative stock if I posted my negataive adjustment as it found my stock was on a Job planning line, I did not try to post that entry.   That is how I concluded that the stock could not be used elsewhere in the system if it was on a planning line.

However, in this next set of testing, I accepted the message and posted my negative inventory adjustment and it posted successfully. That showed me that it did not "lock up the stock".

I then did a further test and only if I had done the full Job Planning lines Actions / Functions/ Reserve task, did my attempt to post a negative adjustment batch fail because of a stock shortage.

I have therefore concluded that I must use the Reservation function off the Job Planning line and not just key in a value in the Qty field only.

Thank you for your time and for your reply which led me to re-visit my testing.

    Hello Marco

    Thank you for the reply.

I'm trying to understand if you think that it should not be working like that.    I like the way it works as per my testing in BC as it suits my purpose perfectly.

I'm not thinking of raising it with Microsoft but I did wonder why, if it works like that, is there even an option to the use the additional functionality of reserving it.

    Thank you

    Hello,

If you are able to reproduce this in standard BC, feel free to raise it to Microsoft via your partner or CSP.

    Thanks.
