ERROR on "WMA" with "Cycle Counting" : You must start by counting the on-hand inventory for all the expected items and then select "Finished" then add one or more new items to this location by selecting "Add new LP or Ite

 Hello,

I have a problem while preforming Cycle counting as I have to count all the expected items FIRST and THEN count the unexpected items;
As a warehouse worker how do I know the expected from the unexpected?

To dive deep into my problem:

When Cycle count work is created for one Location, The Location probably contains On-hand

pastedimage1682960251033v1.png

The Location's On-hand is:

pastedimage1682960276692v2.png

So when you do the work in the mobile application you have to count those 3 items FIRST and then you can count items that aren't On-hand but are physically available in the Location and using the same sequence.

So lets say that you started counting with an item P0004 the following error will show:

So you have to count A0001, A0002 and A0003 and then Do Finished so you can add a LP or item or in other words Count the unexpected P0004,

and If you Counted A0001 and A0002 but forgot to count A0003 and Counted P0004 then started to count A0003 the following error shows:

In Conclusion : You have to obey the Cycle count sequence as it is, How can a warehouse worker know the sequence he has to work with Or I.e. the expected On-hand from the Unexpected, Or How can I disable the sequence of which I have to obey?

Hi Ali, that´s quite a weird outcome from Microsoft. We don´t expect any worker to know what´s expected in a location when counting items, that´s why they count the locations right?!
Moreover, how to handle to the unexpected items to be added to the count on the last step of the counting process? We currently had to ask the Client to put stickers to unexpected products so they can visually come back to them and count them at the end of the process!  Very inefficient process designed by MSO.
    Rgds.

    Hello Hana,
Thanks so much for your answer.

However this article is just the plain basics of Cycle counting and doesn't talk about how to manipulate the cycle counting in your favor,

The Priority of counting work is just about how important is counting to you aside from other types of work e.g. pick or put types in purchase orders and sales orders...... etc.

in conclusion I think that those errors are necessary and cannot be avoided as in Microsoft; modification of a line is far more different than adding a new line and therefore you cannot suspect to automatically differentiate between the two.

    Hi Mohamed,

Here is the article about defining cycle counting, the article mentioned that setting the priority of counting work, and you can go Warehouse management > Setup > Cycle counting > Cycle count plans, enter a number in the sequence number filed. You can check as needed.

Thanks so much Laurens for your answer,

However I don't want the Warehouse worker to be directed to a specific item but to count the items in his preferred order (On-hand & not On-hand but physically available) PLUS the warehouse worker in my case shouldn't know what items to count but to Count what he sees in the location.

Pretty much like a Blind Cycle Count in no specific order.

    Hi Mohamed,

Can you check whether the parameter 'display item number' is set to yes?

    pastedimage1682965917697v1.png

    pastedimage1682965942464v2.png

When this parameter is set to yes, the mobile device shows which item the worker has to count.
