Hello,

I am installing AX 2012 R3 CU12 on my system(Window 7 professional). While installing client component , it gives error while validating for Window Identity Foundation(WIF) not installed. So downloaded it from link provided by AX setup but its not being installed and giving below error:

WIF.PNG

I know this is not directly related to AX but i believe someone had faced this issue while installing AX and can help me to get out from it.

Please suggest.

If you check System requirements guide for AX 2012, you would notice that the AX AOS component requires a Windows Server environment - Windows 7 is not supported. You could try to fire up a new Virtual Machine running a supported operating system, or dual boot a Windows Server VHD file.

This is development Environment , Vilmos. I am installing AOS, Database and Client on same system(window 7 SP1) something like Isolated development environment. Is this possible ??

Not on Windows 7, like I said, you need Windows Server components, which in many cases are different from a consumer OS installation. I remember old comments that some people were able to hack their way around it on forums, but not sure if that is still possible though. Again, build a VM with VirtualBox, or do a dual boot installation where one drive is mapped as a VHD.

    Hi Visvash,

As Vilmos explained AOS component can be installed only on windows server operating system, but  i have faced same problem installing windows identity foundation as a pre-requisite for installing ax client  on windows 7 SP1 machine earlier.

It turned out to be problem with windows update on the machine where we were installing ax client.

Check whether windows update is enabled on the machine and try manually running the windows identity foundation setup that you have downloaded.

    Regards,

Thanks Vilmos for your valuable suggestion . As some of my colleagues are using same system and they are successful with this.

    Thanks Vinod :

I am trying to install manually WIF update downloaded but it gives error as shown in screenshot(attached in my thread above). Yes, might be window update could resolve this , let me try and will update you. If you have any other suggestion please feel free to post.

It seems like you are making extra hops over something that should just work straight away. Like I said above, do a dual boot or just install a server OS on your PC or on a VM.

Occam's razor still applies, always the simplest answer is the best answer..

    Hi Visvash,

    1.Enable Windows update

    2.Start windows installer (if stopped)

3.Restart windows update service if failed to update.

    Regards,

    Rizwan

I appreciated your suggestion Vilmos, thanks but i am getting this Prerequisite error while installing AX Client on WIndow 7 SP1.

     Thanks Rizwan, I did :

    1. Enable Windows update - already enabled and installed updates regularly

    2. Start windows installer (if stopped)- It's stopped but i started this service

    3. Restart windows update service if failed to update- restarted.

Then  i tried to install manually window Identity foundation update but its not being installed gives the same error attached in my thread.

    please suggest .

Again, what you are trying is not supported, no wonder you are having issues.

Refer to the following discussion. Maybe you are doing it incorrectly, WIF should be installed through the Windows features normally. Or if you do it manually, you get a different version, but it also matters which one do you pick, since there are 4 in the download package.

If you still have installation troubles, then the best solution is to turn to the appropriate forums, which is the Windows OS forums.

Thanks Vilmos, I picked the correct one .exe (window 7 64 bit ) from out of four .exe file , other are for Window server and window 32 bit.

Yes, its merely the window feature. Anyways, I am trying to install OS again might be it could resolve my problem.

Thanks anyway for your help :)
