Hi,
If we use Legal entity -> Business unit -> Department hierarchy, and the employee (linked to user) in one business unit can only see the data in his/her own business unit.
Is there anyway out-of-box we can use to achieve this requirement?

Hypothetically yes with xds, but its a big question.
Data is a very broad term, and I assume that also means transactions.
If you are looking to segment e.g. items, and vendors and customers, and POs , and employees, etc then there is much to define, build and test- and then think abut maintenance., and how many different users/branches there are, and how it will affect performance, report, workflows, interfaces etc and to which screens does it apply . So I would plan to use it sparingly.
It is one of the challenges of running multi lines of business in the same company.
Multi company set up instead, introduces a different complexity.
Ultimately if you want the control, then you need to do the admin.
Filtering data, and saving the filter is much easier.
For retail you can decide what data you send to a store database.
