Login failed for one user but not for another.

I have  a user who cannot login under a new user I created. I  can however login on my machine. I watched her try to login and can verify she typed the right user ID  and password with the correct Capitals. I have never seen this before. Any ideas what I can check?

I have verified that on her machine as sa I can see the new user in question.

Thank you for the quick response. Users can log in on the machine as long as they are already exist. if I change a password for a user it no longer works on the problem machine (in either old password or new password). When I look at users in SQL there seems to be a prefix that  is the domain. So a good user is AP/User but a new user created is just User. I did not create users with an AP prefix nor do they show up that way in GP. Also when I log in I remote as AP/Tom and on that machine I can log into the new users I create.

    Hi Thomas

This is probably due to the password encryption.

Make sure that the ODBC is using the exact same Server ID (case Sensitive) and make sure that the User ID Is the correct case as the encryption algorithm accidentally made the User ID case sensitive as well.

See my article on the topic.

Just login as 'sa' from that PC and go to User Setup [ Microsoft Dynamics GP- Tools-Setup - System - User] and then type her user id and re-enter the same password which you given before.

Then logout from 'sa' and try to login again by using that user account ..

I hope it will work.. :)

    Thomas,

Can any user besides 'sa' login on her workstation? If not the ODBC connection names are different.

RE: Login failed for one user but not for another.

    Hi Thomas

This is what I would do test further:

    - Login as sa and change her password again to something really generic and turn off any SQL security.

    - Login yourself as that user on both your machine and her machine to test.

    - If that all works, change the password again to something more secure and try again.

I also find that if you are having trouble with the password, get her to type the password in Notepad first - then copy and paste it - just in case.

I have come across issues in the past where some weird things happen with user ID's.  Recently I was trying to assist a site with setting up a new user and they copied settings from another working user.  No matter what we did (including delete and recreate with the same user ID), nothing would work.  As soon as we changed the user ID slightly, it worked fine.  It was almost like the combination of letters we used wasn't liked as a user ID.

    Cheers

    Heather
