Thank you! its been very difficult to truly understand but you have been most helpful.
I know you cant find many useful links for this topic but see the following
"There may be a “conflict” so CRM may not know where to put some information – this data will be found in the conflicts tab – then you can tell CRM where this information needs to go. The only action you need to take is to resolve these conflicts by moving to the right place. So don’t worry if you see a conflict tab!"

Note: If you are a CRM Online organization and you have customized any of the five updated forms, depending on the specific customizations you have applied, you may see a Conflicts tab added to your form. In this tab you will find any fields where the customizations could not be automatically merged into the new layout. To address this, simply edit the form and drag the fields to where you want them to be. Then delete the Conflicts tab.

The form layout is carried over as is during the upgrade from CRM 4.0 to CRM 2011. We however found a conflicts tab added to a couple of forms but were unable to trace the controls placed in this section to any of the controls in the original CRM 4 form.

Issues reported by others on this topic, all seem to be around CRm 2011, 2013 but yours is online. Thats why I think when we import solutions when CRM merges the form, it still follows the same principle.
Merge Forms allows us to merge older style forms with the latest layout. Any missing visual elements from the older form will be added to the end of the current form
.
My understanding is if it cannot decide where a particular element, field or section should go in the form, due to conflicting changes or names, it will put the in Conflicts Tab. But obviously, i have not come across any link from Microsoft that supports this. My understanding is based on the experience I had
Hi - Do you think this is the answer I am looking for? blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../form-merge-post-upgrade merging forms w/ existing forms from earlier version of dynamics 365?
Hmm, not sure if i follow. Does this link explain it - i.e. do i need to merge forms with an existing form from an earlier version of Dynmacis 365.
Lets say you have Prod and Dev crm instances. If the same area of the form was modified on Dev and also on Prod. And if you export solution from Dev to Prod, you will now have this sort of conflict if the change was in the same tab and same section
it seems as though now any contact I add to a list is now a conflict. I just want to know what is causing this conflict. Was there a change in the form from 2013 to 2016? I need to figure this out. What do you mean "customizing on target instance"
The conflict normally occurs when lets a section of the form was customised on source and also on target CRM instances. When you deploy, most likely it will be causing conflicts as CRM wont be able to automatically resolve it.
You can remove the fields in the conflicts tab and remove the tab itself if you do not want to hide it.
This also highlights another issue that you should avoid customising on target instance and only do in your dev and then deploy to prod or live.
Sorry for all the questions, I am trying to find the field or section that failed to merge. Can you provide any assistance. you have no idea how helpful you have been to me and others!
Okay, thank you. Say i dont want to HiDe the conflicts tab but want to remove the contacts within the contact tab. is there a way to do that? I just want to see what is exactly causing the conflict.
