Why are Products slow to re-import in CRM 2011

Dear Brains Trust,

Would any of you have an answer to the below problem?

Observation:

Re-import of modified Product records is very slow (~10 seconds per record) but re-imports of other entities run quickly, even if they have more columns and records.

Background:

I have exported 100 products to Excel (.xml) from our CRM 2011 On-Premise instance. There are only 2 columns - ID and 'Size' text field.

I have populated the 'Size' field and re-imported the file. After a couple of minutes of transforming, the import grinds along at 5-6 records per minute.

Immediately following this I did a test re-import of 100 modified Account records. This completed in less than 2 minutes.

I repeated both tests and found the same result.

We do not have any custom plugins or workflows running on the product update message.

Question:

Is it normal for CRM 2011 to import Product records so slowly? If so, what causes it and is there a way to speed it up?

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Is it possible that this could be in some way related to the Dynamics Connector that we use to feed product info from AX to CRM?

Also, with over 100,000 products, would duplicate detection have much of an effect?

    Hi Mark,

No, we do not have any custom plugins or workflows running on the product entity, nor on any associated entity.

    Hi

Are there any Workflows triggered on Products that it needs to check as part of the import?
