Dynamics GP upgrade

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Good morning folks,

I work at an international non-for-profit and we have decided it's about time for an accounting software upgrade from GP 2010 to GP 2015.

I need some advice on how to present my case to senior management. Basically i'd like get the upgrade process up and going on November 1st with a completion date in mind for November 30th. I've also selected a pretty reputable VAR to work with. Management is hesitant to start the process late in the year due to our upcoming Audit (which starts in Feb 2016).

I'm also wary of continuing to use GP 2010 given its support expires 10/13/15. Perhaps there are other systems risk's involved -

Any information that would support my case to management, to kick-start the upgrade process would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

Farooq Ghani

    RE: Dynamics GP upgrade

Technically, you are going to need to apply SP4 to GP 2010 to get you to version 11.00.2248. This will allow you to upgrade directly to GP 2015 R2. We do all of our upgrades on test images first. This needs to include all third party products as well as any customizations. The upgrade process is the first step, then the updated version needs to be tested in particular make sure all your reports function properly.  Depending on how many companies your are upgrading and their sizes, the test upgrade will tell you how much time you need to set aside for the upgrade. Make sure all you workstations and server are up to the specifications for GP 2015 R2. You should also discuss with your partner the installation of the GP 2015 web client. We have had little to no trouble upgrading our clients to GP 2015 R2 so hopefully your transition will go just as smoothly. November 1 may be a bit aggressive, especially if new servers will be required. We rarely do in place upgrades so you should be moving to new servers which entails its own set of issues.

    Hi,

I prefere to upgrade first to GP2013 then to GP2015R2 as might some table changes or addions.
