remove time stamp on merge

I have created a workflow that grabs a date field from form, to send in an email.  It is displays the date and the time (which is defaulted to 12:00am).  How do I not display the time in this workflow?

    You can use Field Codes inside of Microsoft Word to format the Date field in order to remove the time.

    1. Start the Merge in CRM
    2. Once Word opens, build your document and add all the required merge fields to it.
    3. Right-Click you date field and choose:  Toggle Codes
    4. It will now display:  {MERGEFIELD <field_name>}
    5. Before the } at the end add the following:  \@ "mm\dd\yyyy"
    6. Now when you complete the merge, the date field will be formatted like:  04/29/2009 without the time tacked on at the end.

    This is helpful, unfortuantely the workflow sends an email via a CRM email template (not mailmerge).  Is there a way to 'toggle' field codes in the CRM email template as you described above for word?
