I have a form which should show vendtrans or custtrans based on the menuDisplayItem I was checking that whether I can use custVendTrans map as datasource? actually I have tried it in one form but nothing is shown, however I searched about and see this post  Can i use maps insted of Table. According to the answers, It seems we can use map as datasource but only for showing data not editing.

Also there is a form named "CustVendInvoiceSettlement_IT" in which CustVendTrans is used. If It is possible to use then why no data are shown in my form?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Nastaran :D,

I do not think you can use a map directly as a datasource in a form, why you do not create temp table or (temp ds) to fill it?

We were using it in 2009. It started crashing in 2012, I guess they released a fix later.

I'm not sure if it's available now or just a control loophole But don't think of the map as a view or table, its use is different. As the name suggests it's just a mapping. You have to fill it

    Hi Nastaran,

Map cannot Instead of datasource for Map cannot store Value and can't synchronized with the database.

but we can view the value in a different table through map, similar to a view. fot it has its Benefits:

    Hi Nastaran,

Maps are used to link tables. By creating a map, fields can be accessed in different tables if the fields are of similar types but have different names. For example, a class that implements functionality to process data in the tables. If these tables use identical names for the columns, you can reuse data processing classes.

A Map object associates one value (the key) with another value. Both the key and value can be of any valid X++ type, including objects. The types of the key and value are specified in the declaration of the map. The way in which maps are implemented means that access to the values is very fast.
