Creating a Marketing List?

I am trying to use a Marketing List with an attendee roster I recieved.  I want to create this list completely seperate from my leads, so is there a way to upload it directly to the marketing list and not into leads and making the connection?

    That won't be possible. To be a member of a marketing list there must be a corresponding Lead, Contact or Account Record.

    I would suggest that you import the leads with a specific Topic field value that will help keep them separate from the other leads. Then use the dynamic marketing list feature to associate them with the marketing list.
