I am trying to figure out if document status in D365 sales order that gets automatically updated on upon certain events like Confirmation, picking , packing , invoice is configurable.

I want to see if there is a CONFIG way of adding new values under document status or is it custom code.

    Hi,

Would you take a moment and mark "yes" for the post which answered your question?

    Hello,

It is not recommended to modify the DocumentStatus in a Sales Order, unless there is a specific business requirement as Andre and Satish mentioned.

    A few questions:
    1. Is this an integration scenario? What's the requirement?
    2. Is there any status that you are trying to map on a non-Dynamics system through integration?

    Thanks,

    Hi d365beginner,

It is not recommended to add certain statuses as the current ones are pre-defined and updated by business logic with an intention.

Can you explain the business requirement? What kind of statuses do you have in mind? What business events are you referring to?

I would start with is there a real business need and what would be the statuses. Suggest that you don't modify the standard status (Neither SalesStatus nor DocumentStatus) because they are used through out the application irrespective of whether you can do it or not (I just checked the Base enums and they are set to true for Extensible property). Create additional status (again why?) and have that status populated mostly automatically. Often we see requirement, then it comes too much to maintain (so avoid in first place) and just work with standard product offering if possible). Also inform customer that it may work now but may not be later as MS (may) block the extension of statuses in future.

This helps thanks! So if we want to add custom statuses for better visibility of certain business events, is it done at the Main Header status level? Is it recommended to add custom header statuses or its invasive?

    Hi D365beginner,

The document status come pre-defined (no config)a can't be changed. They automatically  gets updated as part of confirmation, picking list, packing slip and Invoice.

The benefit document status provide is what the latest and greatest action that has happened on the sales order.

E g.if you have 10 qty and only invoice 1 qty. Document status = Invoiced but order is still in 'Open order' status.
