Smartlist response time unreasonable

We are trying to run the out of the box smartlist for Payroll Historical Trx> check information; current year.  It takes more than 5 minutes for it to populate.  Why??  the screen remains blank for a long time and then it finally populates.  The resulting report has over 24,000 lines.  Would it be normal for it to take that long with that many rows.  The out of the box is only for the current year so there are a great many more than 24,000 possible records.

    Hi Brenda,

    SmartList is intended as a query tool only. If you decide to increase the maximum record count >1000 , be aware that processing time will be slow.

    Hi Brenda,

    We suggest creating payroll historical transaction smartlists by first creating specific SQL views and then linking them to GP either via Smartlist Builder or Smartlist designer instead of using the "canned" GP Payroll Trans Hist smartlist.  When you do it this way, it allows you to select more specific fields desired for your report, and we suggest to also consider adding restrictions at the SQL view level if possible to limit the number of results before they are presented via smartlist interface.  This practice typically produces results at a much more efficient speed.
