Can any tell me how to change the Maximum length and segments in Great Plains 2010?

I have installed and created two database that have the wrong maximum lents and segments.

I need to increase size on both fields.

This is in the set of the account structure.

Thank You

Hi - Its not easy to do manually. I presume you are talking about the options you can choose when installing GP initially? If so - Corporate Renaissance Group have a Reformatter tool.

Or are you talking about amending the Account Structure specific to each company?

    Ian.

    Hello Karen,

Once you have created the new company you cannot change the change the Account Framework that is initially setup in GP Utilities.  For example, if you have 4-4-3 as you account format maximums, and you have the account structure set to 3-3-3, you will only be able to increase this structure to your set maximum of 4-4-3.

The only options you would have is to remove the new company and create a new one or possibly use a 3rd Party Product.  Ian mentioned a possible solution below.

    Thank you,

    Jeff LaPointe

    Hi Karen,

Though officially unsupported, we have successfully changed the account structure for a company and then mapped all old account numbers to the new account numbers using the PSTL utilities and direct SQL updates.

This has been performed for several large companies including those adhering to the Sarbanes-Oxley compliance standards because they are publicly traded.

However, if you just installed the companies and this is not yet a production instance, creating a new company is the best option.

    Thanks,

    Bryan

    Bryan,

Could you expand how this is done?

    Thanks,

I discovered something interesting in GP 2013. By doing the following steps, it changed my maximum segment length from 4 to 7:

    1. Click on Microsoft Dynamics GP >> Tools >> Utilities >> System >> Reconcile to open the Reconcile Window.

    2. Under Tables, highlight ‘Account Format Setup’ and click the Insert button.

    3. Click Reconcile.

With this done, I was able to follow this post (community.dynamics.com/.../is-it-possible-to-change-the-account-format-for-the-chart-of-accounts-in-gp.aspx) to complete the changes I needed.

    Hi,

That doesn't change the framework, it changes the format.

    Kind regards,

I don't think anyone asked about changing the framework. The question was changing the length of segments and the number of segments.

If you haven't loaded data yet, then you can delete your databases and Dynamics and start over again, but if you have then go to Corporate Renaissance and get reformatter.  That is the only way that you can reformat the chart of accounts.

    My mistake,

Based on the 'Reformatter' suggestion, I thought it was the 'framework' that was needing to be adjusted. If it's just the format, it shouldn't be a problem making it bigger. I think you'd just go into the Account Format setup and change it. Makes me think it might be more involved. Perhaps not, I tend to complicate things.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
