transfer journal to new legal entity

Posted on by 1,162

Hi expert,

I'm facing difficulties about historical journal. I'm creating new legal entity in same database, My old entity will be not used later.

My purpose is all transaction in GL entry had been posted in old entity will be transferred to new entity. If I get data from "ledgerjournaltrans", only contain ID for ledgerdimension or offsettledgerdimension field. it's very difficult.

what is the best tools should i use to extract journal from old entity especially from ledgerjournaltrans record?

Completely agree with Satish, please do not try to copy recid it will cause inconsistencies in the data.

If i were you and you had to copy a lot of transactions from the old entry, i would use the Opening balance(Journal) entity in DIEF/DIXF to export from the old entity then import into the new entity, validate everything and then post.

    Hi Agus,

As others mentioned, only opening balances are transferred. however i can understand why you may want to copy transactions etc. What you should not do is try to copy ID's / line number etc. that's system related data and you shouldn't try to copy it. Don't try to copy the recid or any other field that system generated, it will only cause problems for you.

Here is what you should. Extract data from Legal entity 1. it can be LedgerJournalTrans table... then go to legal entity 2 and try to import as you would import any other ledger transactions. Don't try to match up the two legal entitites for every field. your core focus should be on transaction date, GL accounts/dimension, description, credit/debit, offset account / dimensions.

    Hi Aqus,

We always transfer balances while opening a new company, and if you are opening a company in the same environment you can always check the vouchers for the account for audit purposes.

If you try to copy the same/exact transactional data It may be difficult and pretty time consuming to handle. Anyhow, how much are your backlog entries?

    Warm Regards,

    Zain

    Hi Agus,

When creating a new legal entity we typically transfer only balances, not individual transactions. Why do you want to record / copy those individual transactions? Also, can you let us know if your old company is also setup in the same AX2012 machine or is it a different system/version?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
