Upgrading 8.2.2.2160 On-Premise to 9.0.2.3034

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello. I manage 6 separate deployments with over 100 organizations in total. All of our orgs have followed this upgrade path:

8.2.0.0749 (KB3205084)
8.2.2.0112 (KB4046795)
8.2.2.2160 (KB4340339 - provided by MS)
We are interested in migrating all of our orgs to 9.0 but I'm confused with the migration path.

I'm aware of the 9.0.2.3034 download found here (www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx;amp) but is that a fresh full server install or is it an upgrade install? If it is a fresh full server install, where do I get the upgrade installer to run in my already existing installations?

Also, is doing an in place upgrade of 2012 to 2016 (for OS and SQL) a good/bad idea? Should I consider spinning up new vm's with 2016 OS and SQL instead?

Any detailed info would be greatly appreciated.

It is always better to go for new installation and then move the database/organization across. So you can still use the same nstaller, build a new version 9 environment and then upgrade your org individualy. As you have 100+ orgs it may be time consuming but safe as you will still have the 8.2 org to roll back on.

    Hope this helps.

Especially if you're upgrading both CRM and the OS, I would *strongly* suggest new VMs.  This gives you a cleaner install, as well as the opportunity to test them side by side for issues.

    Hi phoeneous,

you're right, this is a full installer. Sadly Microsoft hasn't delivered an cumulative update, we're also waiting for it.

Bookmark the following link and check it then and when support.microsoft.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-365-onpremise-cumulative-updates
