Hi,

Can anyone help me with my concern? I'm trying to run the Retail POS in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 with error notification "Retail POS cannot connect to a database. Try again later or contact your system administrator". What setup did I missed?

Thanks,

Chi

Verify that you channel DB is operational. open the POS Database Utility and click verify database. see that it succeeds.

    Hi Christiaan,

is POS Database Utility and Retail POS Configuration utility the same? im using 2012 R3 and cant find POS Database Utility.

Hi Chi, its called the Retail Channel Configuration Utility on the Client where POS runs. it must be run as administrator to hold the settings once you close the app.

    Hi Christiaan,

The test connection of the Retail Channel Config Utility was successful but still I can't open the Retail POS.

Open event viewer. Go to Windows > Application logs and open the POS again. It will give you more details on error or you could share it here to let us see what happen.

Hi Chi, Looking into the event viewer log will help but you need to turn on specific logging behavior of the POS client. while in development phase I always turn on the full logging of POS clients.

    Here is how:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics AX\60\Retail POS\POS.exe.config change Warning to All (case sensitive) line 26 if no modifications made <source name="RetailNetTracer" switchValue="Warning"> change to <source name="RetailNetTracer" switchValue="All">
Also change the initializeData="" to a location on the machine example initializeData="C:\RetailLogs"

Run the POS again and review the new log file created at c:\retaillogs\.

    Hi,

you may need to enable SQL Server Browser on PC /Server , which is running Channel DB.

By the way can you explain your Deployment topology ? then it will help to find out root cause.

    hope this will help!

    thanks ,

    Amith Prasanna.
