Using the Confirm and Transfer Feature with Manual Containerization

Hello SCM experts,

I was hoping someone could help guide me with using the Confirm and Transfer feature.

Our client is currently using the manual containerization method to pack items into containers before moving to a staging location and eventually a shipped location.

The process is as follows:

Release sales order to warehouse
Pick work is automatically created
Pick items using mobile app to a Put location of PACK.
Use d365 Pack screen to create new containers/pack them.
Close the container and the system creates 2 step Packed Container Picking work.
The first step of work is to move the container to a stage location (mobile app)
The second work is to move the container to a final shipping location (mobile app)
Confirm shipment

Our clients orders are usually very large and the items finish at different times. They like to send out trucks as parts finish but it will only be a partial shipment. They can't plan what is going to fit on a truck till it has been loaded. Thus the Confirm and Transfer feature seems like the solution.

However, I can not get this feature to work with containers. For example, I have a load with two containers. One container that has all work completed and is in the final ship location and the other container is only moved to stage. When I go to hit Outbound shipment button on the load I recieve an error of "The shipment for load USMF-000108 could not be confirmed because all work for the load must be complete."

My desired outcome is how the feature is suppose to work where it takes the unfinished works and splits it to a new load and allows the current load to ship.

Has anyone delt with issue or may have insight into an alternative method to ship partial shipments on large orders?

Thank you,

Cole

    Hello Cole,

I have never used this feature with manual packing.  I first suspected that it might not be supported, but looking at the documentation it seems like it is (provided some conditions are met): docs.microsoft.com/.../confirm-and-transfer.  So it seems that it would work if packing is complete and items are in staging but not if items are still at the Packing Location.

So verify if the state of packing meets these conditions.  If it does not make a difference, later in the documentation on the feature, it does state that setting of the Load Template is required. Load Template is usually assigned from Load Planning Template, so if your load is created through another process (eg. releasing a Sales Order will typically create a Load without assigning it a Load Template).  Make sure to assign a Load Template that is enabled for Allow load split during ship confirm.

Please let us know if these solve this your issue.  If not, I will try to replicate.

    Regards,

    Danny
