Revision change for Released Products

Dear Experts,

We recently changed released product revision due to drawing update, therefore we couldn't use the stock with older revision against the upcoming works orders. So we manually had to change revision for the parts we had on-hand stock. By changing revision up to date - we still can't do any transfer/issue the stock- even if there's no reservations or block status. It comes out with error message '' 1,875.00 cannot be picked because only 0.00 is/are available from the stock. ''. Any help is much appreciated.

Kind Regards

    Hi Viz,

What are you using to indicate the revision of a released product? It is a different released product, or are you using one of the product dimensions (Configuration, Style, Color, Size) maybe?

    Hi Guy,

Thanks for you reply. Revision could be anything - as they are changing the drawing for the part , it could affect  part dimensions such as size/colour etc. We tried to do a test in 2 different environments, LIVE and UAT, in Live after the revision change for on-hand stock, stock couldn't be moved or qty adjusted, where on UAT doing the same steps we didn't had any issues. I`m not sure where to look at for a solution. I`ve also checked the BOM revisions for those parts that have been updated and all revisions in areas I looked at seems to be correct.

    Kind Regards

Yes, but what dimension (in AX) do you using on your inventory so that you can not select this stock?

    Hi Fredrik,

Im not 100% sure what you mean by dimensions for inventory. Here's file with the problem we are having, as you can see, there's no reservation against it and for some reason AX doesn't allow to do any transaction against that part number.

    Hi Viz,

I see in the screen shot that you have a column called 'Revision'. 'Revision' does not exist in standard AX, which is why we're getting confused!

I assume 'Revision' is one of what AX calls 'Product dimensions'. There are four of these 'Product dimensions' in standard AX. They are Configuration, Style, Color and Size. Three of them can be renamed to anything you like (Configuration can't be renamed) - so I guess 'Revision' is one of these renamed.

So my first question; how exactly did you get the stock from the old revision to the new revision? Did you use an inventory adjustment journal, for example?

If 'Revision' is not one of the AX product dimensions, the alternative is that it is part of some non-standard functionality that you have, in which case my ability to advise is restricted.

    Hi Guy,

We used quantity adjustment on on-hand stock window as for some reason it didn't allow  us to adjust the stock via journal.

I had a read yesterday and a lot of people having quite similar problem, as suggestion - we ticked the ``physical negative stock`` tick box in item model group and it fixed the problem partially.

Not 100% sure what impact it will leave behind, but we had the problems before with negative stock and we had to untick the box at that time. With this Revision(Product Dimension) change - we are not actually going into negative stock, but trying to move it from A to B location and it doesn't allow us.

    Kind Regards

First up. I am waving a BIG RED FLAG!

    Don't do negative physical!

If effectively messes up your fifo costing and master planning is useless (if you don't intend for it to work that way and have accounted for negative days).

You might very well feel the burn later at inventory closing... Don't know what inventory closing is? The I'm waving a black suit and hope to be invited to your AXs funeral. Because then you're doing this wrong and need to call someone who can tell you how this works. A partner consultant might cost a lot of money, but it is a small price to pay for getting you out of the hole you're digging. Trust me... This should not be taken lightly. If you do know what inventory closing is, then ignore my rant in this paragraph and only need to focus on the red flag.

So on to dimensions... I'll try to be generic.

The message means that the item can not be found at the issued location or warehouse, or with the given product dimensions (color/size/configuration or what ever you want to call it).

A dimension details your inventory transactions... Not all types or dimensions need to be active. Only "site" is mandatory.

We have three type of dimensions.

Location: Gives you the whereabouts of an item. It is divided into Site, Warehouse and Location (++)

Tracking: Identifies the unique product if active. In form of serial number or batch number.

Item dimension: Identifies a flavor of the item color, size or configuration.

A dimension can have multiple or a single attribute.

So the message you are getting simply is a signal that you do not have this item with the given set of dimensions available. You need to make sure this is aligned... Using negative inventory is putting your head in the sand and you are effectively ruining your inventory control. Stop immediately...
