Convert user type from windows domain to application - Nav 2016

Hello all,

I have recently decommissioned a trusted domain but did not realise at the time this would have a detrimental effect on Nav.  Now I cannot view the user admin page as it gives me the error "The Trust realtionship between the primary domain and the trusted domain failed".

I am not in the position to reinstate the trust as the network that supported the old domain is now all gone and the hardware recycled.

I can view the user list in powershell and I understand to fix this I just need to remove the users created from the old domain but I am told I will ruin the posting history if I do this as historic data will no longer be tied to that user if that user is deleted.

Is it possible to convert the windows users from the old domain into Nav application level users via powershell and if so, will there be any data loss as a result?

Many thanks,

You can re-add the new domain users to NAV via Powershell, the old still remain.

    To add users:

New-NAVServerUser -ServerInstance <<Service Name>> -WindowsAccount <<Domain\USerName>> -LicenseType Full -State Enabled

    for permissions:

    New-NAVServerUserPermissionSet -PermissionSetId SUPER -ServerInstance <<Service Name>> -WindowsAccount "Domain\USerName"

Thanks Stefano, But the new users already exist.  The problem is as long as the old domain users still exist we cannot access the user control panel.  Not as much an issue for me as I am the sysadmin and can use powershell but the designated NAV user administrator is not IT so needs this interface.

And removing the old domain users is possible for you? You don’t loose anything on NAV data.

Thanks Stefano,  We have an external company looking after the Nav instances but they insist we cannot delete any users ever as it will affect historic records created/modified by that user.  Is this not the case?

No this is not the case. If you delete a user, records on other tables are preserved.

Thank you very much Stefano.  That's really helpful.  I will go ahead and delete the redundant domain users then.
