Additional URL / Alias for ADFS

Hello

I successfully configured my CRM system for external access with ADFS.

Now my question. CRM works with the URL organisationname.domain.tld.

This is a little bit long so I want the URL crm.domain.tld.

I created already an alias in my DNS Server to organisationname.domain.tld, but it doesn't work (I can not log in).

I tried already to enter the URL (crm.domain.tld) in the IFD Relaying Party Trust, but then I get an error 404.

Any ideas?

Best regards

Raphi

    Hi Raphi,

I believe you have only two options here:

    1. Change your organization name to 'CRM'.

    2. Make crm.domain.tld redirect to your organisationname.domain.tld. So when users enter the smaller url they get redirected to the original organization url. This will not solve the problem, when configuring the tablet app though, they will still need to enter the complete url.

See following link for more info:

    Hope it helps you.

    Bojan.

    Hi Raphi,

For our IFD environment we figured out which DNS need to be configured for what purpose first , so may be because of that we didn't face any trouble finding our External URL so difficult to remember.

As per my knowledge IFD environment is based on DNS entries only, we cannot modify any URL later after configurations.

For your purpose you could have put Org name as a 'CRM' already so that final External URL becomes "https://CRM.domain.com"

Please let me know if you finds any way, it will be an added knowledge for me. Thanks!

    Regards,

    Pradeep P.

    Hello Bojan

    Thanks for you answer.

How can I change the name?

    The link is not working.

I have also the problem, that my email router isn't working anymore (The authentication endpoint Username was not found on the configured Secure Token Service!). I tried it with the internalcrm.domain.tld link and with the external link.

And in the Outlook Client I have also a problem, I enter the internal link and can not choose a organisation (it says "specify organisation"). Any ideas?

    Best regards

I tried many things (another aliases, entering the url to adfs etc.) but nothing worked correctly. The easiest way would be to rename the organisation, but the field is greyed out in the deployment manager.

the problem with outlook and email router is fixed --> support.microsoft.com/.../en-gb (section "more information")

Still the "problem" with the organization name, how can I rename it?

It may not work, I have never tried it, but perhaps URL Rewriting could be the way forward here?

add an external dns record to the CRM server and rewrite it to organisationname.domain.tld

    anyone tried this before?

    Hi Raphi,

Sorry for the first link not working, you can see it by google-ing "Internet Facing Deployment - Things I Wish I Had Known for CRM 2011"

You have two ways to rename organization name:

    1. Option to rename the organization display name in deployment manager, but i believe this will not solve your issue. As the IFD will still show the original organization name.

To try renaming the organization in deployment manager, disable the organization, and then edit it. It will allow you to change Display name.

    2. Option to rename the organization name you will need to create back up and re-import the organization back in the DB under a different name. Thus creating a copy of the existing organization with a name 'CRM'.

Please see the procedure from the following link.

    msdynamics2011.blogspot.com/.../how-to-copy-microsoft-crm-2011.html

(If the link doesn't work search "How to copy Microsoft CRM 2011 organization on the same server." It should be the same for CRM 2013 as well.)

The link shows in detail how to create a copy of an organization on the same server..

When you restore the database in MSQL server, give it a name CRM_MSCRM and when importing the organization in the deployment manager,

    give it the name CRM.

You can then disable or delete the previous organization.

Update the ADFS configuration to consider the new organization and that should be it.
