Dynamics CRM 2016 for Outlook Setup crashes for unsupported version of Internet Explorer 0

Hello!

First of all, I'm sorry if this got asked some time before. I did my search before posting and couldn't find anything, so here goes:

I'm trying to install Dynamics for Outlook on my Windows 8.1 machine with Office 2013, and shortly after double-clicking on SetupClient.exe I get the strange error message in which it says that Internet Explorer version 0 is unsupported.

I found a post in which this problem was mentioned on a Dynamics 2015 installation, and the workaround that apparently solved it at that time was to go to "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer" and change the value of "(Default)" with that of "Version". I tried this and it didn't work for me. I also tried changing these values to some other version numbers and even tried on the same key that is under the "Wow6432Node" key, restarting several times and everything, but got nothing. Also tried "reinstalling" Internet Explorer, without luck.

Anyway, if this problem has been around since 2015 I figured that it may have a simple solution.

Thanks for your help in advance!

We have the exact same issue, only a couple of users though, not all of them for some reason.

Have you been able to solve it?

This problem turned more and more into a necessity at my company, so I was forced to use some unorthodox methods that I don't like using to find out what was wrong with it, as Microsoft was nowhere near giving us an adequate support. I thought it was their problem, but it turned out it wasn't.

It ended up being a problem regarding privileges. I was using Simarks BestSafe to restrict privileges to the "iexplore.exe" process for security reasons, and the Dynamics setup needs to access it with administrative privileges for some reason. I momentarily granted permissions to everything and everything worked.

Thank you all for your help!
