Hi,

I have installed Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and Business Portal 5.1 and everything is working fine. However; I have been instructed to change the URL from http://gpcom/bp to http://businessportal.domain.org. Can someone please help me out with the steps to do this?

Thanks,

Lori

Actually I am not quite sure about the idea of "changing" the URL as I've never done that. Although, I don't understand the target behind that. Please share any further ideas that might justify the reason why.

From your current business portal URL (http://gpcom/bp), I would assume that the server name is "gpcom" and the port is the default one which is (80), right ?

Otherwise, in case you have not use the default port, then the business portal URL would be http://gpcom:85/BP

Therefore, I don't see any issue behind changing the URL.

    You are just fine !

We don't want the server name to be part of the Business Portal URL. If you can help with the configuration, please do.

    Hey Lori-

We have something similar -- ours is portal.okaya.com.

You'll need an "A" record in your DNS that points to the IP of your BP server.  Ours is called "portal".

Then in SharePoint Central Administration, you'll have to change around the "Alternate Access Mappings".  Here are what mine are for our setup here:

For the Intranet zone, the internal and public URL is http://portal.

For the Extranet zone, the internal and public URL is https://portal.domain.com.

I hope this helps.  Let me know if you get this working!

    Thanks.

    -Joe
