Hi,
I am trying to upgrade a VM from update 39 to update 42. And the step 26 gets failed with the below reason. Could someone let me know the solution for the issue.
Step - 26 : Update script for service model: DevToolsService on machine
Log - Failure running the VSIX installer. Please see the previous logs from the VSIX installer.
Thanks!
Hi Suren,
Can you verify if you did install .NET Framework 4.7.2 on the VM first? Also make sure Visual Studio 2017 is installed on this VM. These are two new pre-requisites as Visual Studio 2015 has been deprecated.
Instead of upgrading the VM, you can also deploy a new VM which has all required components pre-installed correctly.
Hi Andre,
Thanks for your response! .NET framework is already installed in the machine. Please confirm which edition of VS is required to be installed(Community / Professional or Enterprise)?
I have installed VS professional edition and restarted the VM, now it is throwing a different error as below
"Cannot bind argument to parameter 'Path' because it is an empty string."
Please share if there is any solution for this.
HI Suren,
You didn't mention which VS version you installed. Is it Visual Studio 2017 or another version? Do you get the error on the same step 26? Have you studied the logs in detail?
Anyway, deploying a new VM or downloading the latest available VHD files might be easier.
I have installed VS 2017. And yes, the error comes in the same step 26. I have went thro the log and the below is the final info available for the step 26
[5/24/2021 12:39:30 PM]: Trying to locate "DynamicsRainierVSTools-52924ab1-c4fa-47fc-a90d-a5d1e69986bb" in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Professional\Common7\IDE\Extensions"
We are trying to upgrade the same environment as there are configurations customized in this instance.
What exact configurations are customized and for what reason?
I do assume the log is providing some more context. This line looks like a step definition. What line is exactly mentioning an error? Can you share some more of the error log file?
I believe you dont have VS2017 in the VM which built on an older image.
Please install VS 2017 manually first, then apply the prerequisite below:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/dev-tools/developer-tools-vs2017
Then manually install the Microsoft.Dynamics.Framework.Tools.Installer.vsix from the 10.0.18 deployable package, under your package folder\DevToolsService\Scripts.
Resume the deployment should work
Thanks all for your responses. This is resolved now. I manually installed the DynamicsRainierVSTools for the upgraded version and resumed the step 26 which executed fine without any issues. Followed the below link.
