Apply field level security to the Account Name

I would like to apply security to the account Name, so that only a small set of people can update it.

I have read https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/dynamics/crm-customer-center/enable-or-disable-security-for-a-field.aspx which talks about

"For example, if want to prevent users from accidentally changing an account name, you can restrict them from editing that field"

However, when I Create a new solution, pull in the Account, and go to Fields: Name,  the Enable Security radio set is greyed out on the field Name.

Am I just doing it wrong (or missed out a step)?

If there are some field for which security is not possible, does anyone have a definitive list of which you can and which you cant?

Many thanks,

I have an extension to the original question, for any fields where security can be enabled:

We have approx 350 users.  most would require READ access, and only a handful with UPDATE.

However we do not use Teams.

I would plan to create two security Roles, one for read with EVERYONE in it, and one for the update, with jsut some named users.

Is there a way to specify ALL (or ALL ACTIVE) in the Users/Teams section, rather than having to name each person individually?

That would be a maintenance nightmare, as users come and go.

Any suggestion for the best way to approach this requirement?

    Many thanks

    Dianne

Download the tool to get the list

    technet.microsoft.com/.../dn832104.aspx

Account name is a primary attribute I guess that's why it can't be changed

I would suggest you to create a custom name field and enable field security on it; later copy it in account name
