I have a client that wants to use a bank that uses Vital as its processer. I am confuesd if Vital is a preferred processer or do I have to install a third party software to get it to work

With Vital you do not need a 3rd party software. Use RMS EDC.

Mihr, is correct although you may not be able to use pin-based debit and a pin-pad.

The PCCharge is no longer an option as its implementation is not PCI compliant.

    Hi jeff.

what do you mean by not pci compliant?

is there no way to use a pinpad for debit card with pc charge?

With the PCCharge and ICVerify implementation, RMS creates a plain text file that PCC/ICV reads, it contacts the processor, creates another plain text file that RMS reads to see it approve/decline the card.

The issue is that a rogue program could read the text file and send the credit card info to the bad guys, so it is no longer approved for processing credit cards through RMS.  If you are caught using an un-approved system, you could be fined up to $250,000 or dropped from any/all future processing, and if found that your system was compromised, you are responsible for all fraudulent activity, which could be in the millions of $$.

Whether or not one can use a pin-pad debt with PCC/ICV is a mute point.  Every year you confirm that you are using a PCI compliant system, with PCC/ICV and RMS, you are not.
