Run a report with optional parameters

ReportReport
Posted on by

So i am new to CRM and have been asked to create a report whereby someone could put in a Sales guys name and a date range and then output all the activities by said Sales guy. They asked for this to be a report, but after poking around i am not wholly convinced this is the right method. We used CRM with with Office365 so no onprem.

I hope this is clear, it almost seems like it would be called a form. Input Name and date range and output details. Maybe customize the output in a certain readable way. Any help, pointers, information would be appreciated. Will buy lunch!

This can be done using the Advanced find itself. Are you expecting to replicate the same in a report or as a separate entity ?

Arun, basically i need to tell a Manager enter the person name here and select a range then generate the data. Yes it could be a report, but it would be dynamic right, so I may want to look at Sally for the last 6 months and run it, then i may want to look at Bob for the last 7 days and run it.  They are asking for a report, but those are sort of set right? You can't have a report that prompts you for variables or can you? That is why i was asking about a form.

Derek, this is possible through report. Confirm the below parameters. i will try to come up with a prototype for you.

    Input Parameters:

    1.Enter the user Name

2.Enter a date range for eg. From Date and To Date

Here are some links which will give you idea about CRM fetchxml reports with parameters.

You can use above links and create your own report with required parameters.

Thanks Arun, yes,  I need an Activity report (phone calls, emails, etc) for a user "X" for a date range. Your two parameters are correct. Assuming the context is activities.

Hey Derek, i have created a basic prototype using the out of box Wizard Report Type.

You can refer to the doc in the below link. Hope it helps. I haven't focused much on the writing though.
